Bulgaria Takes Off

On 18 September 2005 Wizz Air starts 29 euro (airport fees not included) flights from Sofia to London three times weekly. The news heralds the beginning of a new age for the country, with Wizz Air being the first ‘no-frills’ airline to operate a service to Bulgaria.
Wizz Air is a Hungarian company registered in London which has already taken off - literally – in other East European countries like Poland and Hungary with huge success.
József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air, said at a press conference in Sofia, where the announcement was made: “The Bulgarian market entry represents a strategic move for Wizz Air that will expand its operations in Eastern Europe, beyond the boundaries of the EU.
“Shortly the citizens of Bulgaria will benefit from Wizz Air’s low fares and comfortable customer services which will undoubtedly revolutionise air travel in the country. Wizz Air will change the travel industry here for the benefit of the country and the people of Bulgaria.”
To promote the new route Wizz Air is offering 10,000 tickets priced 1 euro each (taxes and charges are to be paid) for travel between 18 September 2005 and 25 March 2006.
